Sancus Solutions offers a two day investigative training course in Policy Logs which will demonstrate to delegates the need to record critical policy decision making and highlight the dangers of failing to record decisions or recording them inadequately.

Who is the course for?

Supervisory police officers who manage:

Serious Crime Investigations

Hostage Situations

Large Scale Public Order Incidents

Natural Disasters

Large Scale Transport Disasters

Roads Policing and Firearms

NHS Trusts, Local Councils and Regulatory bodies who encounter incident management.

What is the course about?

Policy logs are an essential part of policing as they record the decision making process of those involved. At the time of a crisis it is all too easy to make a judgement which with hindsight may not be the one you would have made. Policy logs help you to record your reasons as to why you made that decision, at that time.

This course aims to take delegates through the importance of policy logs and why it is critical that they are completed accurately.

What does the course deliver?

Drawing on the experience of Senior Police Investigators who have long experience of managing high profile investigations and the subsequent court proceedings, we will explain to delegates the requirements for completion of policy files and describe appropriate structures for doing so. Delegates will create their own policy logs in a scenario based exercise. On the second day, a barrister will cross examine the authors of those policy logs in a realistic re-creation of a court room experience.

What will I get out of it?

At the conclusion of the course, delegates will be better able to:

Identify the difference between setting policy and raising actions;

Describe the required format for a policy file;

Describe the legal requirements for maintenance of policy files;

Explain the structure of a policy decision;

Deal professionally with cross examination regarding a policy file.
