Recent Contact Police Deaths (DSI)

Recent Contact Police Deaths (DSI) is an essential course for all those in a management or investigative role following a ‘recent police contact’ death.

The Police Service in England and Wales is legally obliged to ensure deaths that occur following direct or indirect contact with the police are robustly and transparently investigated.  This intensive course will cover what does, and does not, constitute such a ‘recent contact death’, how they must be investigated and the interaction with the IPCC and Coroner in their independent scrutiny roles.

This is not just a course about deaths in custody, it covers the full remit of deaths to be referred to the IPCC and follows the journey from discovery and investigation to judicial scrutiny, be it in a Coroner’s Court or elsewhere.

Facilitated by a former Head of PSD  this course will draw on his significant experience in the field to ensure students achieve the greatest possible understanding of the issues involved and have the knowledge and skills to conduct transparent, effective investigations and effectively engage with statutory partners and families of the deceased

Norfolk – 3rd & 4th November 2016

“The course was excellent and really informative. As someone due to start on-call in a few weeks time , this will be really beneficial”

“This course was excellent, mainly due to the knowledge and style of the trainer. I now have the confidence in my decision making when not referring a matter and the tools to enable me to justify/document this rationale. Thank you very much.”

“This course was very informative and the trainer had an excellent knowledge of the subject and was able to answer supplementary questions well. The course met my needs really well and the trainer ensured that everyone was able to contribute and ask questions which were answered whilst sharing others’ knowledge and experiences. An excellent learning experience overall.”

“This was a brilliant course, highly relevant to my role. Guest speakers were highly relevant and gave some very useful information. Ian delivered the course fantastically. As always he is very engaging and helped me to make sense of what appeared to be a very complex definition. This course has certainly given me huge confidence to apply the definition robustly yet correctly and fully justified. A very worthwhile investment of my time and I thoroughly recommend this course.”
